Sophie Macpherson

Sophie Macpherson trained at St Martins and Camberwell Schools of Art in London. She has been exhibiting regularly since 1989 and has been represented by the Portland Gallery, St. James's, London since 1993.

In the last ten years a considerable following has built up for Macphereson's work, which is distinctive for the mostly maritime subjects that she favours, rendered in a muted palette of colours and explored in a manner that has been described as romantic surrealism.

Macpherson lives and works in West Sussex, although a lot of her subjects are taken from her frequent trips to the west coast of Scotland. She has had several solo exhibitions at the Portland Gallery in London and Edinburgh. Collections of her work include Barclays Bank, Charterhouse Bank, McKinsey and Co, Misys plc, Robert Fleming Holdings and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
