Robert Carruthers

A distinguished sculptor who both studied and taught at the Royal College of Art. Robert Carruthers worked with Epstein, and won the Prix de Rome and travelling scholarships to France, Italy and Greece. He has had one man shows at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford and the Serpentine Gallery and has had work commissioned by Southill Park, the Stuyvesant Foundation, Portsmouth City and Swindon for the Millennium.

The studies in pastel and watercolour in this exhibition are concerned with light and its effect on the colour of the landscape from early morning until dusk and the way Robert sees the changing light illuminate or darken the sky, trees and fields. The pastels and earlier works were done in Oxfordshire, the later studies in Wiltshire.
