Richard Leaf Kimmerling

This present set of etchings (and paintings) is based largely upon the landscape of East Suffolk where I have lived and worked for over 30 years. Although the work does feature some familiar landmarks I generally try to seek out the more subtle drama of open fields, of marshland and of those seemingly insignificant landscape corners, which are so easily overlooked.

The titles of the work often make reference as much to the weather, the time of day or the time of year as to specific locations; it is the mood and the emotional ‘pull’ of these ever changing elements that I try to address through my work.

Whilst I have always made paintings, my fascination with the etching process goes back only some six or seven years and I am still exploring the fickle nature of this remarkable medium.
