Nicky Brown

Nicky Brown’s recent paintings and works on paper reflect her interest in the dwindling numbers of people who work on the land: the hedge layers, wood cutters and willow coppicers who keep ancient skills alive. Her work, whilst being part of an East Anglian tradition that includes Harry Becker, has a strong sense of dynamism and energy that is all her own. The exhibition also includes a selection of works based on her travels in India which continue the theme, as well as several of Nicky’s atmospheric landscapes of Scotland.

Nicky Brown attended the Royal Academy Schools and Central School of Art. She went on to exhibit in New York and with Cadogan Contemporary in London. In 1991 and 1993 she was a prize winner in the Sunday Times/ Singer and Friedlander watercolour competition.

Nicky's painting reflects her interest in the changing effects of light on the landscape, particularly the North Norfolk coast and the Outer Hebrides where she paints for extended periods.

She is also well known for her conversation pieces and studies of children.
