Gay Strutt
Gay Strutt studied at the Chelsea School of Art and later attended Maggi Hambling's life drawing class at Morley College, London for many years. She is naturally drawn to the Stour Estuary where she grew up, and her very personal response to the landscape of the estuary recalls the interest in atmosphere and weather effects of Constable.
Her work in this exhibition focuses on landscapes of Scotland, the Suffolk coast and the island of Evia in Greece. Gay has said that the Scottish landscapes were made quite quickly in front of the subject and that she wanted to convey the awesome sense of space beyond the mountain and over the horizon. The snow was a bonus.
