Caroline Gibbs

Caroline Gibbs initially studied decorative arts at The City and Guilds of London Art School in 1980 and subsequently worked as a designer, maker, gilder, stenciller and assistant to theatre designers. Last year she returned to studying at Suffolk College, gained a distinction, and has now started a BA in Fine Art at Colchester, with an emphasis on printmaking.

Caroline writes about her work:

I am currently fascinated by printmaking, and the scope within it for making very various images.  As well as getting pleasure from the processes I have found that manipulating them can lead to exciting and unexpected outcomes.

This body of work was mainly started on the etching press, not always conventionally. I have incorporated some lino prints and stencils too. The wooden panels were first painted and then printed over. All of the work are monoprints;  I am not interested in creating runs of identical work but like to develope and change  each image.

It's all about loss and memory;  about those associated feelings that fragment and fade, distort, conceal and confuse;  and about how, in my view, the unspoken often speaks more clearly than the spoken.
